The contrast of the thin pine slat fence with the chunky gabion walls brings a real presence to this yard. The gabion works as an anchor for many of the fence posts thus eliminating the need for concrete footings. And, in soil that was full of rocks, roots, and large deposits of clay, this was a godsend. The gabion is faced with river rock while the interior fill is comprised of a mix of discarded bricks, concrete masonry units, plastic buckets, & plastic trays, making it a great example of ways to reuse construction or demolition debris.
